about

Katie Hamilton, LM, CPM, IBCLC

Katie Hamilton is a California Medical Board Licensed Midwife (LM), Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), Childbirth Educator, and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She holds a BSc degree in Midwifery. Katie attends home births in the South Bay and surrounding L.A area.

Mama Nurture Birth recognizes the journey of pregnancy and childbirth as a normal physiological process. Birth is an instinctive, primal event that has its own rhythm and pace that should be honored. We respect an individual’s autonomy and aim to provide our clients the dignity of being active participants in decision-making and self-care.

When the birthing person is the primary decision maker for herself and her child, she can be an active giver of birth rather than a passive receiver of birth technology. Giving birth under one’s own power helps a mother to emerge from the experience empowered with a new sense of her own capabilities.

Every person deserves to feel safe, nurtured, and empowered in their birth experience.

My team provides care that empowers families on their birth journey, a rite of passage. With care and support, comes confidence and trust-in birth, in parenting, and beyond. Fostering that gift, gives me great joy. I live in Redondo Beach with my husband and children ages 10 and 11, and one on the way!

A Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) is a knowledgeable, skilled and professional independent midwifery practitioner who has met the standards for certification set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and is qualified to provide the Midwives Model of Care.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

-Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle

-Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

-Minimizing technological interventions

-Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.

I am an open and affirming practitioner who does not discriminate on the basis of any physical characteristics including body shape and size, sexual and/or gender identity, ethnicity, race or religion. All are welcome.
